Chapter 24

Talking ducks, hopping boxes,
hot dogs in side cars,
talking bears, candy gardens--
this tale is so bizarre.

Talking turtles on unicycles,
clowns from in the wood--
I’d tell you that it all makes sense
if I only could.

And so the travels of Scottie and his pet duck, Merlin, continue until this day, but before I continue with their story I’d like to remind you that it’s only a story and you shouldn’t believe this story to be true even if I tell you it is true-- which I will do from time to time just because I can.

That being said, just because you happen to be reading this story on HaveDuck.com doesn’t mean it’s the truth but it could be. Some people believe only what they want to believe so if you want to believe that Have Duck, Will Travel is a true story then that’s just fine by me. After all, it’s not up to me to tell you what you should believe except to say you should believe everything I tell you.

Are you confused yet? I know I sure am. Anyway, back to our story.

The way I heard it, Sally had some tools in her sidecar that she used to fix the clown’s unicycle while Peppermint went into the woods to pick candy for their supper. The clown, whose name was Sam, by the way, helped Sally repair the unicycle while Scottie, Merlin, and Tom T. Turtle took a nap. You see, young children, ducks, and turtles often need naps so they can make it through a busy day. Have you had your nap today.

After the three of them awoke from their naps they played a game of tag along with the hopping box. It might be that the hopping box is a mystery to all but have no doubt, when a hopping box is “it” someone is going to get tagged and right away. You see, hopping boxes hold several world land speed records so no one can run faster than a hopping box.

In a little while Peppermint returned from the forest with a basket of fresh picked candy in one hand and a hive of bees in the other hand with hundreds of angry bees swarming all about him. “Look Everybody,” Peppermint shouted, “I found us some fresh honey.”

“And bees!” Scottie shouted as he, Merlin, the hopping box, and Tom T. Turtle all turned to run.

“Wait for me!” Tom T. shouted as he was quickly left far behind, “Wait for me!”
