Chapter 20
By now I guess you’re thinking this story is getting pretty wild. Talking ducks, hopping boxes, motorcycles with hot dog sidecars, candy that grows on trees, and a striped bear named, Peppermint-- what could be stranger than that? Well it just so happens that the story of Scottie and Merlin’s travels gets even stranger, but first, before we go on with their story we need to check on Scottie’s mom and dad. They’re probably worried, you know?
“Have you seen Scottie?” Scottie’s mother asked. “He’s been gone several days and I’m beginning to worry about him. Little boys shouldn’t be away from home for such a long time.”
“I wouldn’t be too worried,” Scottie’s dad replied as he looked up from his computer monitor.
“Why not?”
“Because,” Scottie’s dad explained, “I’ve been reading all about Scottie’s travels on HaveDuck.com since the moment he and Merlin left home.”
“Oh well,” Scottie’s mother said, “if Merlin is with him then I’m not worried at all. Merlin wouldn’t let anything bad happen to Scottie, he treats that boy as if he was his own downy little duckling. Where are they at tonight?”
“They’re with Sally, Peppermint, and the hopping box. They’ve been having a picnic in the field.”
“Isn’t that just lovely,” Scottie’s mother smiled, “Scottie’s making new friends.”
“And he’s got a hopping box,” Scottie’s dad added. “I don’t think we’ve got anything to worry about.”
“I’m not worried,” his mother said. “I just miss the little guy.”
“Yes, Dear, I miss Merlin too. After all, I raised him from a duckling you know?”
“I meant Scottie,” his mother shouted. “When I said, I miss the little guy, I meant I miss Scottie.”
“Oh yeah,” Scottie’s dad quickly agreed, “I miss Scottie too.”
“You better miss your own son,” Scottie’s mother grumbled. “After all, he is your little guy too.”
“Yes, Dear. Whatever you say, Dear.”
